What is an IBAN?
The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is an internationally agreed system of identifying bank accounts across national borders. Originally adopted by the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS), it was later adopted as an international standard (ISO 13616:1997).
Its primary purpose is to facilitate the automatic processing of cross-border payments, ensuring speed, accuracy, and security in international money transfers. Today, over 80 countries use the IBAN system for domestic and international transactions.
IBAN Structure & Format
An IBAN consists of up to 34 alphanumeric characters, depending on the country. It is structured into specific components that help banks route payments correctly.
- 1Country Code: Two letters (e.g., 'DE' for Germany, 'GB' for UK, 'FR' for France).
- 2Check Digits: Two numbers used to validate the IBAN's integrity using MOD-97.
- 3Bank Identifier (BIC/SWIFT): Identifies the specific bank holding the account.
- 4BBAN (Basic Bank Account Number): The domestic account number within the bank.
Example: German IBAN

What is an IBAN and why do I need one?
An IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is a standardized format for identifying bank accounts internationally. You need it for receiving international wire transfers, SEPA payments within Europe, and increasingly for domestic transactions in many countries. It ensures your payment reaches the correct bank and account.
How do I validate multiple IBANs at once?
Click the "Bulk Validation" tab, then either paste your IBANs (one per line or comma-separated) or drag and drop a CSV/TXT file. Click "Validate" and we'll check up to 100 IBANs instantly. You can filter results, copy valid IBANs, or export everything to CSV.
Is this IBAN validation service free?
Yes, IBAN.Guide is 100% free to use with no registration required. You can validate unlimited single IBANs and bulk validate up to 100 IBANs per batch. There are no hidden fees, no account creation, and no usage limits.
What file formats can I upload for bulk validation?
We support CSV and TXT files. For CSV files, we read IBANs from the first column (headers are automatically detected and skipped). For TXT files, put one IBAN per line. Maximum 100 IBANs per file.
Which countries' IBANs are supported?
